PRIVATE 63383 GORDON CRIFF GREEN, 3rd BATTALION (1st CENTRAL ONTARIO REGIMENT) CANADIAN INFANTRY. KILLED IN ACTION 16th JUNE 1915.

Gordon Criff Green was 40 years old when he was killed in action. On the afternoon of 16th June 1915 his regiment, 3rd Central Ontario Regiment of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, attacked the German lines near to Givenchy north of Arras. Gordon fell wounded as the attack failed and he was never seen again. Gordon Green was the son of Christopher Green who owned ironmongers shops in Ilkley. In 1911, a married man with 3 young children he emigrated to Canada where he worked as a salesman in Montreal. He joined the Canadian Army in October 1914 and was sent to the Western Front. He is commemorated on the Canadian Memorial to the Missing at Vimy Ridge and honoured on Ilkley War Memorial
